«Commercial» and «official» items

We respect recipients’ wishes

Not everyone is interested in unaddressed advertising. That’s why some letterboxes have a sticker saying «Stop – No advertising». Since Swiss Post heeds these stickers, not all items can be delivered to all private households and to customers with a P.O. box.

A distinction is made between items with «commercial» content and those of an «official» nature.

«Commercial» items

«Commercial items» comprise promotional mail. These items are not delivered to letterboxes with a sticker saying «Stop – No advertising»

«Official» items

«Official items» are distributed to all letter/mail boxes. These items comprise:

  • Items from authorities and the public enterprises of the Swiss Confederation, cantons and municipalities
  • Official publications
  • Items from political parties
  • Items from cross-party committees in direct connection with upcoming elections and votes
  • Items of a non-commercial nature that meet the information needs of the general public (e.g. requests for blood donors, information on noise, transport or interruptions to utility supplies)
  • Items from waste management/recycling companies (clothes and shoe bags, battery bags, etc.)
  • Items containing donation requests from fundraisers and charitable organizations certified by ZEWO, the official registration body for charities
