Perforation
The perforation of an unpackaged item weakens the paper and can be torn open during machine processing.
The item will then be exposed to the risk of additional damage during the remainder of the sorting process.
Tip:
The perforation should only run along the upper long side of an item, where it will least affect machine processing. If the perforation is to be positioned anywhere else, we recommend conducting a trial run on our sorting machines first.
In addition, the paper weight should be at least 20g/m2 greater than the recommended minimum weight. To ensure the perforation does not tear during machine processing, the crosspiece should be as long as possible.
Items with notches/punched holes all the way through are not suitable. They "confuse" the controls of the sorting machine and are likely to result in items getting damaged. This applies to full notches (surface holes) and partial notches (peripheral holes) as well as to envelopes with continuously transparent contents and windows.
